Today, we are witnessing the unprecedented set-backs in our democracy and the rule of law. We are seeing an excessive and the concentration of power and wealth in the few elites damaging our politics, economy, laws and civil society.
In the last decade, we are seeing the type of government that prefer to lock the door rather than open to public participation, that choose to silencing critic rather than encouraging, coercion rather than dialogue. The type of regime who see students protest as enemy rather than legitimate voice, who are blaming people rather than advocating,
Across Indonesian archipelago, we are witnessing threats to peasants, fishers, labours, students, indigenous people and civil society. We have to live in this beautiful country with closed civic space, with too many restrictions on the fundamental rights of speech, assembly and association, with so many barriers to express their opinion.
We support civil society movements to reclaim our space, because we believe that a robust civic space, strong civil society is essential to achieve our collective goals to save the planet, to achieve and realize a welfare and a just society.
We play our specific role as enabler of democracy and civil society movement. On pro bono basis, we support the grassroots movement and our collective works in four focus issues:
- Returning Politics to the People
- Democratizing Economy
- Restoring the Rule of Law
- Strengthening civil society
